Executive Bios
Ken Wolsey
President
For nearly 25 years Mr. Wolsey has been involved in the development and deployment of advanced expert
systems and other automation software. He has been engaged in small business management for the last
11 years and has performed many duties including executive management, project management, principal
investigator on DoD research projects, software product development, business analysis, marketing, and
direct product and services sales.
As president and founder of Knowledge Systems Solutions, Mr. Wolsey has led the company from startup
to successful product launch. Mr. Wolsey is the project manager, chief architect and domain expert
behind episTree.
Mr. Wolsey has a strong industrial background having worked domestically and internationally with
Bechtel Power Corporation, General Electric, Ahlstrom Pyropower, General Dynamics, Northrop Grumman,
SAIC, US Air Force, US Navy, Foster Wheeler International, A.O. Smith, Monsanto EnviroChem, CH2M Hill,
and Alcoa.
Previous to working in the small business sector, Mr. Wolsey held the position of Director of Global
Automation Technology for Ahlstrom Pyropower, Inc. Projects architected and managed by Mr. Wolsey
reduced engineering and design man-hours by 90%, project schedules by 40%, and construction rework
costs by 95% on large-scale boiler design and construction projects throughout the US, Europe, and
Japan. These results were instrumental in increasing Ahlstrom’s global market share from 25% to 60%
of the CFB Boiler Industry within an 18-month period.
Mr. Wolsey graduated with a BS degree in Design Engineering Technology from Brigham Young University
in 1981. He subsequently received an MBA from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA, and has
received certification in International Management from the International Institute for Management
Development (IMD) in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Mr. Wolsey has been active in many professional organizations including Project Management Institute
(PMI), Corporate Affiliates Program (CAP) at the University of California San Diego (UCSD), Knowledge
Systems Laboratory at Stanford University, and the National Shipbuilding Research Program. He is the
past national president of the Calma Users Group and the Computervision Users Group in the CAD
industry. He currently serves as a small business CAP Board Member at UCSD, and as the Vice President
of Finance for the San Diego chapter of PMI.
