episTree
episTree is the core technology that underlies all products from Knowledge
Systems Solutions (KSS). Built using the Microsoft .NET development environment,
episTree provides a knowledge-based framework to identify, capture,
and manage knowledge, information, data, and metadata.
episTree is unique among knowledge management technologies for two reasons:
- It is a personal knowledge management tool.
episTree complements enterprise-level knowledge management systems by
allowing users to capture and reuse important information, data, and metadata that
don’t fit into traditional enterprise knowledge management systems.
- It stores information in an XML knowledgebase.
Using XML eliminates the need to keep an expensive database programmer on site to
make changes to a proprietary database. It also simplifies archival and reuse after
long periods of time because the information is stored in a standards-based format.
KSS incorporates this base technology into products that uniquely meet our customer’s
needs. For example, episTree uses
elements of the core technology including comments, reference files, alerts, and
document viewing and editing to provide a robust personal knowledge management tool
for project managers.
The tools built on episTree allow anyone who works with large volumes
of knowledge and information to capture, organize, manage, store, find, and reuse
that information.
